FDA 483 - Burns Poultry Farm, Inc. - June 01, 2011
During an inspection conducted from May 23, 2011, to June 1, 2011, the FDA observed two violations at the firm.
**Observation 1:** The firm's written *Salmonella Enteritidis* (SE) prevention plan is not implemented and followed. The plan was not developed for the specific farm type, and the firm implements and follows alternative procedures not listed in the plan. For example, the firm routinely uses techniques for the detection of flying insects but does not use bait for flying insect control. Additionally, the plan's "Visitor Policy" and "Production Dept. Disinfection Practices To Prevent Cross Contamination" sections state that dry footbaths are required for visitors and personnel when entering/exiting poultry houses or when in contact with hens. However, the firm routinely uses footbaths throughout all poultry houses, which deviates from the written plan.
**Observation 2:** The written SE plan does not bear a date and carry the full signature(s), not just initials, of the person(s) who administer the plan. Specifically, upon arrival on May 23, 2011, the written SE prevention plan lacked the signatures of the program administrators and the date of implementation.
The inspection was conducted by Investigators Lisa N. Thursam, Keith J. Jasukaitis, Margaret N. Persich, and Marlon A. Turner, and the Form 483 was issued
