FDA 483 - Dakota Growers Pasta Company, Inc. - September 19, 2018
An FDA inspection conducted at Dakota Growers Pasta Company, Inc., a pasta manufacturer located in New Hope, MN, on September 18-19, 2018, identified significant concerns regarding sanitation practices. The primary observation documented in the FDA Form 483 report was that the firm failed to clean and sanitize its utensils and equipment with sufficient frequency to prevent food contamination. Specifically, the FDA investigator observed mold growth in several critical areas. A storage bin hanging in the washroom, used for food contact brushes, appeared to contain mold. Furthermore, mold was observed along multiple sections of the edge between the lid and mixer on a production line where in-process flour, egg powder, and water were being used to make egg noodles. This report, issued under the authority of Section 704(b) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, highlights conditions and practices that could lead to food being prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions. Dakota Growers Pasta Company, Inc. is expected to promptly address these deficiencies to ensure that all food contact surfaces and equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized, thereby preventing potential contamination and maintaining compliance with food safety regulations.
