FDA 483 - Faraway Farms, Inc. 1 & 5 - March 30, 2011

This FDA Form 483 documents observations from an inspection of Faraway Farms, Inc., located at 2918 Powerdam Road, McGaheysville, VA 22840, and also referencing House #5 at 1963 Three Springs Road, McGaheysville, VA 22840. The inspection, conducted on March 28-29, 2011, identified several deficiencies related to Salmonella enteritidis (SE) prevention and pest control in shell egg production.

The firm lacked a written SE prevention plan specific to each farm, operating without a plan from July 9, 2010, to February 1, 2011. Although a plan was signed on February 1, 2011, environmental testing for SE in poultry houses was not performed 4 to 6 weeks after the end of the molting process, as required by their own SE Prevention Plan.
