FDA EIR - Vigo Importing Company, Inc. - August 19, 2025
Vigo Importing Company underwent a food safety inspection by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on August 14, 2025, conducted as an FDA Contract Inspection. The inspection revealed significant deficiencies in the company's preventive control measures and allergen management, operating under the regulatory framework of Chapter 500, Florida Statutes.
Primary violations included a flawed hazard analysis that failed to identify foreign material inclusion as a process control hazard during spice blending and packaging, evidenced by the discovery of synthetic fibers in equipment. Moreover, the analysis overlooked the need for supply-chain controls for mycotoxins and pesticides in raw materials such as oregano and turmeric, as supplier documentation lacked comprehensive testing results.
Another critical issue was the inadequate implementation of written allergen monitoring procedures. Inspectors observed large cracks in product chutes used for different allergen-containing products, posing a risk of cross-contact despite internal checks marking equipment as satisfactory.
As immediate corrective actions, Vigo Importing Company retrained employees, increased monitoring at critical production steps, requested updated Certificates of Analysis from suppliers for relevant hazards, and initiated a work order for equipment repair. The regulatory body issued a Stop Sale Order for affected products and mandated a follow-up product re-inspection within approximately 30 days to confirm all corrections have been made and to facilitate product release.
