- Summary: On October 1, 3, and December 4, 6, 2012, the FDA investigated A & M Teixeira Dairy, identifying violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. A bob veal calf sold for slaughter on June 19, 2012, was found to be adulterated. USDA/FSIS analysis revealed penicillin at 0.39 ppm in the kidney (tolerance 0.05 ppm) and sulfamethoxazole at 0.320 ppm in muscle and 0.188 ppm in liver, for which no tolerance exists in veal. This violates 21 U.S.C. 342(a)(2)(C)(ii).

The dairy also held animals under insanitary conditions, failing to maintain complete treatment records, which could lead to medicated animals with harmful residues entering the food supply, violating 21 U.S.C. 342(a)(4). Furthermore, the human drug Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim tablets were used extralabelly without following the veterinarian's prescribed dosage and without licensed veterinarian supervision, violating 21 C.F.R. 530.11(a) and causing the drug to be unsafe and adulterated under 21 U.S.C. 360b(a) and 21 U.S.C. 3
