FDA WARNING_LETTER - Sunnyside Poultry Farms - July 11, 2011
On November 28, 2011, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to Sunnyside Farms, Inc. following an inspection of their shell egg production facility from June 28 to July 11, 2011. The inspection revealed serious violations of the Prevention of Salmonella enteritidis in Shell Eggs During Production, Storage, and Transportation regulation (21 CFR Part 118), rendering their shell eggs adulterated under Section 402(a)(4) of the FFD&C Act and in violation of Section 361(a) of the PHS Act.
Key violations included: 1. **Rodent Control (21 CFR 118.4(c)(1)):** Failure to achieve satisfactory rodent control, with records showing rodent indices above the specified limit of 1 and observed rodent activity. Proposed corrective actions were deemed potentially insufficient. 2. **Fly Control (21 CFR 118.4(c)(2)):** Failure to achieve satisfactory fly control, with fly counts exceeding the specified limit of (b)(4) flies. New insecticides and reduction procedures were proposed. 3. **Egg Testing Timeliness (21 CFR 118.5(b)(2)(ii)):** Failure to obtain egg testing results within 10 calendar days of a positive environmental test notification.
